Okaya Silk and Echizen Washi Notebook - Memories of the Omiwatari Crossing the Lake
The feel of silk slubs and the breath of washi paper on your fingertips
The cover is made of 100% domestic silk fabric, spun on a rare Joshu-style reeling machine at Miyasaka Seishijo (Okaya City). Unlike threads produced uniformly by machines, the irregular "tsumugi slubs" that appear in the weft create rich shadows unique to natural materials. This "Kenpushi" (silk paper), made by hand-laminating Echizen washi onto this silk fabric, combines the softness of fabric with the strength of paper, offering a luxurious and crisp feel.
The miracle of winter, expressed in foil stamping
A delicate line runs across the center of the cover, as if tearing it apart. This represents "Omiwatari," the phenomenon where the frozen ice of Lake Suwa cracks and rises with a sound. This mysterious trace, also called the path where gods passed, is reproduced with foil stamping. Its sparkling appearance at different angles of light evokes the quiet dynamism of life amidst the harsh cold of winter.
The best writing experience that doesn't interrupt your thoughts
For the inner pages, we used "OK Fools," Japan's only premium paper exclusively for writing. It has a smooth texture that resists feathering and bleed-through even when writing with a fountain pen. The "thread-stitched binding" allows it to open flat 180 degrees, eliminating hand stress when writing and allowing your thoughts to flow onto the paper without interruption.
